Report on Project 1:  Title: Engaging Municipalities in Redevelopment of “Todlers”

·        Definition of Todlers: Brownfields + all other used sites that are either underutilized or abandoned

·        Todlers + greenfields + developed sites – (protected open spaces + undevelopable land) = total available building sites

Deliverables:

·        Model redevelopment process (with inter-agency coordination and accelerated approval) that reduces time required to move Todlers from identification/marketing stage to construction

·        team of expert resources that will provide the information, counsel and direction to municipalities

Considerations:

·        outreach required to all 169 towns and municipalities

·        input and cooperation required from state and federal agencies

·        state programs scheduled for review and possible realignment under PA 06-184 (and the new Office of Brownfield Remediation and Development)

·        timeframe for project completion therefore limited (£1st Quarter 2007)

Success:

·        increased number of toddlers identified by the municipalities that are engaged in some step of the redevelopment process

·        better expert resources at municipal level (including training and no and low cost services)
